Housing Information

Housing assignments are mailed to students in May and roommate assignments are mailed in early August. At orientation, the students you will stay with in your Case Hall room are students who are living in your residence hall in the fall. Take the opportunity to get to know them, so you can see some familiar faces when you return to campus!

All freshmen are required to live in a residence hall on campus during their first year at MSU. The only students exempt for this regulation are:

  • Married Students
  • Students who will be 20 years of age by the first day of fall registration
  • Students living with parents or a legal guardian within commuting distance to MSU

When signing up for your AOP, you also have the opportunity to complete your Housing Reservation Card. Students who plan to live in on-campus housing must complete this reservation card and submit a $25 deposit (this can be included with the Advanced Enrollment Deposit).

Roommate requests are due to the Housing Office by May 1st. The request must include both student’s names and NetIDs. After May 1st, requests are not guaranteed but every attempt will be made to pair you with the student of your choice. Note that we are unable to honor roommate requests for AOP.

Residence Hall requests on your Housing Reservation Card are accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are unfamiliar with campus, check out our residence halls: http://www.uh.msu.edu/livingon/halls.html
