Should I bring money to pay for my classes at AOP?

You will not need to pay for your classes at orientation. Your tuition bill will be ready for viewing online in STUINFO (http://stuinfo.msu.edu) after orientation. You will receive an e-mail in your MSU account indicating that your tuition bill is ready for viewing. Pay close attention to the payment deadline so you are not charged a late fee.

Do I really have to attend every session at AOP?

In order to enroll for classes, you MUST attend every AOP session. Attendance at every AOP session is a requirement for enrolling for your classes. Attendance will be taken at various sessions. AOP has been carefully planned with your transition into college life at MSU in mind. Note that if you do not attend all presentations, you will not enroll for your classes. Please do not schedule any appointments, such as physicals for college sports, musical auditions, equipment fittings, etc. or plan to leave AOP for award banquets, work commitments, etc.

Can my parents come to the AOP sessions with me?

Although this may, at first, seem insensitive, the student orientation is purposely designed to be for students only. The staff is better able to address the unique priorities and questions that students typically have. In addition, orientation is a step in your adjustment to college life dealing with topics you will encounter in college.

Why do I have to pay for AOP?

At orientation you will receive orientation materials (including Academic Policies Book, Spartan Planner, Descriptions of Courses, Academic Department Materials). The office must also compensate the staff which assist you during the program.

How can I switch my orientation date?

You can switch your orientation date using the same system you used when you made your AOP reservation. Click on https://ntweb11.ais.msu.edu/aopsignup/AppLogin.Asp to change your date.

What happens if I miss my orientation date?

It is extremely important that you do not miss your orientation date. If you do not notify the Orientation Office at 517/353-5030 (prior to your scheduled date) that you are unable to attend your AOP, we assume you are no longer interested in attending MSU. Please be advised that Michigan State University reserves the right to cancel a student's admission or defer their arrival on campus should they fail to attend their assigned Academic Orientation Program.

What happens if I am going to be late for orientation?

If you are running late, please contact our office immediately at 517/353-5030. At that time our office staff will let you know if you should come to orientation or reschedule for another time.

What if I have something else planned during orientation i.e., auditions, interviews, physical, equipment fitting, awards banquet, job commitment, etc? Can I leave orientation and return after my scheduled events so that I can enroll for classes?

No. Attendance at every AOP session is required. Choose an orientation date when you can attend the entire Orientation Program. In order to meet with an adviser and enroll for classes, you must attend every orientation presentation. It is not possible to enroll for classes early. Please keep this in mind when you are making your travel arrangements.

I made travel arrangements when I have to leave early/arrive late, is that ok?

In order to meet with an adviser and enroll for classes, you must attend every orientation presentation. It is not possible to enroll for classes early. Please keep this in mind when you are making your travel arrangements.

Because I am coming to AOP between semesters, does that mean that I will not get classes?

You will not leave AOP without semester classes! Your adviser and an AOP staff member will help you enroll for classes.

Once I leave AOP, where do I go for help?

faqsThe MSU homepage (http://www.msu.edu) is a great source of information if you have questions regarding academics, residence life, etc. Conducting a search is easy. We have so many great resources on campus just waiting to be used! Academic advisers, counseling staff, administrative staff, students and many others are all ready to help you!

The FYI website (http://www.fyi.msu.edu) is a source of information regarding academics, college life, family, and money designed by current MSU students for “inside” information. It includes tips and links to resources from roommate issues to writing a paper. Check out this site. Many upperclassmen have told us they wish they would have had a resource like this when they were starting MSU.
